Charity: a unique ‘mission’ for R&B boy band

from Positive News Media:

INFANTA, Quezon – HIGH school students of Mount Carmel School of Infanta (MCHS) howled, giggled, and sang with today’s newest local R&B band Intensity, whose recent launch in Filipino airwaves started the unique mission for a Pinoy boy band’s founding.

That mission actually started here. “I hand over US$10,000 to MCHS so that your school building that was hit by the typhoons last year be renovated,” said US-based Mila Glodava, founder of Intensity’s local producer Kirsten Music and Entertainment, Corp.

After hearing the glee of the whole MCHS studentry, Glodava, who heads the 10-year-old Filipino-run nonprofit Metro Infanta Foundation (MIF) based in Colorado, USA, added: “I urge you to buy the start-up album of Intensity because 10 percent of all its earnings will go to charity… for Infanta.”

Being “intense” in its music for a worthy cause is Intensity’s mission. The group (in photo, from left-standing, clockwise), made up of Jan Ray Hernandez, Jermhyn “Beige” Brian, Rodel Gerard “Nino” Formanan, and K.C. Sequito, vowed to work hard and bring to Filipino listeners a more soulful rendition of the Pinoy R&B music brand.

Intensity’s CD Lite (distributed through Ivory Music, and co-produced by Events and Artists Management Office) features two original compositions by renowned local composer Vehnee Saturno – “Nasaan ka Man” (the carrier single) and “Kahit Pa Ano”; two other compositions by upstart composer Edwin Marollano – “Please” and “Ayoko Na”; and a revival of the Whitney Houston hit “All at Once.”

Here, Intensity even made Madonna’s “Borderline” – a 1980s dance classic – a possible R&B hit, in acapela.

Intensity’s music is direct and straightforward, the four band members say. The four members humbly add that Intensity is currently feeling its way in the local boy band scene.

But some are hopeful. In a web forum, “Cagalli Rukia” said: “Perhaps you might have not yet known them (Intensity) because the band is not yet a hit. But I think they are unique because among today’s boy bands, where many of them have solo vocalists, here all band members render soulful R&B music.

Band members vowed before Kirsten Music’s Mila Glodava that they will work hard to make their CD Lite a hit. “It is for Infanta that we are doing this, Tita Mila,” the four said.

After their launch here in Infanta, the students came in droves to sign autographs with KC, Beige, Jan Ray and Niño. “I hope that will be an indication of the band’s rise to stardom in the local scene,” Kirsten president Beth Gutierrez said.

“We hope so, too,” said K.C. “All for Infanta.”

Manila Bulletin - March 13, 2006

from the Manila Bulletin on March 13, 2006:

Variety in the music scene is good. Its respite from trends that reminds us mainstream music is cyclical so there’s room for every musical genre of regardless of prevailing clime. Who knows the one you hate now and declaire as so yesterday is actually just a preview into the future, eh?

Thus, the advent of boy band Intensity that will be releasing their debut album in a few days. Produced by Events and Artists Management Office, Kirsten Music and Entertainment, and distributed by Ivory Music, the album will feature songs by hitmaker Vehnee Saturno. We attended their soft album launch at Thrams Restaurant and Bar a few weeks ago where they sang some of these that reminded us of songs by Backstreet Boys, Boyzone and N’Sync (remember them?).

The boys also sang a couple of covers as "Thank You" and "Borderline" (yup, that Madonna dance classic-turned-R&B ballad). The first was especially dedicated to Mila Garcia Glodova.

By the way, the Metro Infanta Foundation, also announced that night their donation to the Mount Carmel School of Infanta (MCSI) amounting to $ 10,000 on top of a $ 16,000 pledge to be used for youth camp projects, computer allocation funds, project management and scholarship programs for the young ones of Infanta, Quezon.

A hat was also passed around to solicit donations from the Garcia clan and guests for victims of the Guinsaugon landslide in St. Bernard, Southern Leyte. The amount put up that night was doubled by Mila all out of the generosity of her heart.

The Kirsten Music and Entertainment group, also the name of their newly established record company, is headed by President Beth Guitierrez and Finance Manager Marissa Monte.

Intensity members (whom you will all be reading more on in this column once their album is out) are KC, Nino, John Ray and Beige.
